Enthusiasts Challenge Lakeside Claims

From:                  Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts, Inc.

Issue Date:         16 June, 2003
Topic:                  Lakeside International Raceway

Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts met earlier this month to discuss the future of club-level motor racing at Lakeside International Raceway. Members were infuriated by recent local media articles reporting claims that motor racing at the circuit created serious noise and water problems. Club president, Ian Milton had this response:

"It's clear there's an extreme minority determined to exclude motor racing from Lakeside's future, even if it means fabricating issues, but I challenge anyone to produce written evidence to support these claims of serious noise problems, and the suggestion of water pollution coming from Lakeside is simply irresponsible."

“Lakeside has operated on the banks of Lake Kurwongbah for over 40 years and there has never been a single water pollution complaint made to the circuit owners by Pine Water or any other environmental body. These concerns just aren’t based on fact and the argument just doesn't stand up when you consider that there's an eight lane freeway carrying hundreds of thousands of cars everyday across the same body of water."

“And as for the hypothetical noise issue, Council has less than a half a dozen official complaints on record from the past four decades – hardly a serious issue for the majority of people in the shire.”

“We’ve even done our own research by actually talking face to face with many residents who live close to the track and not one of them brought up track noise as an issue, they were more concerned about barking dogs.”

GOAL

LMRE’s goal is to re-instate motor racing at Lakeside International Raceway as soon as possible and assist whichever body will best achieve that outcome.

 NEXT MEETING

The next meeting of the Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts, Inc. will be on Monday, 7 July @ 7:30PM at the Pine Rivers Junior Rugby Football Club on Mundin St, Petrie.
