Poll says Yes to Racing at Lakeside From: Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts, Inc.
Issue Date: 13
June, 2003
Topic: Lakeside International Raceway
A telephone poll conducted by the Northern Times newspaper, asking readers if they wanted motor racing at Lakeside Raceway, resulted in a landslide victory for the supporters of motorsport.
With their greatest ever response to a telephone voting poll, the publication received 1062 'yes' votes and only 45 'no' votes. Opposition to motor racing constituted less than 5 percent of the total votes.
Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts president, Ian Milton, had this to say about the results:
“Numbers aside, the survey clearly shows that a vocal handful of people is forcing an agenda upon the Council even though there is unqualified support in the community for the return of club-level motor racing to Lakeside.”
“It doesn’t take many conversations with residents or business owners to realise that despite the misinformation spread by the anti-motorsport lobby, people know it simply makes sense to include motor racing at Lakeside,” said Mr. Milton.
“The people of Pine Rivers know that motor racing is good for business and an asset for the local economy, and local business owners and charity organisations will tell you they have already felt the negative impacts of the track’s closure,” said Ian Milton.
GOAL
LMRE’s goal is to re-instate motor racing at Lakeside International Raceway as soon as possible and assist whichever body will best achieve that outcome. NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts, Inc. will be on Monday, 7 July @ 7:30PM at the Pine Rivers Junior Rugby Football Club on Mundin St, Petrie.
