Sakzewski Locks On Lakeside From: Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts, Inc.
Issue Date:
6
October, 2004
Topic: Lakeside International Raceway
Brisbane, Queensland – Geoff Sakzewski, managing director of the company that formerly operated the entire Lakeside Motorsport Complex, has added his own padlocks to the gates of the heritage listed circuit, two years after its purchase by the Pine Rivers Shire Council.
The unexpected action raises more questions about the sale that allowed the PRSC to purchase the facility for the price of an average suburban property.
PRSC is disputing a contract with Helicopter Services Pty Ltd and other parties regarding portions of land that make up the Lakeside property including critical parts of the circuit.
At last night's Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts' meeting Sakzewski explained that regaining ownership of Lakeside was not his motivation.
The padlocks and chains were first discovered by Council workers on Thursday morning and have been cut twice since. The new security was accompanied by identifying signage with contact details.
Helicopter Services has already been able to contact some of the current users of the facility and does not see any problem with their continued use provided appropriate insurance coverage is in place.
LMRE president Ian Milton was surprised by the turn of events,
### Objective LMRE’s goal is to re-instate club level motor racing at Lakeside International Raceway as soon as possible and assist whichever body will best achieve that outcome. We are not seeking the future ownership or management of the circuit. Next Meeting Monday, 1 November 2004 @ 7:30pm at Pine Rivers Junior Rugby League Club - Mundin St, Petrie. |
