Racers Return to Lakeside

From:                  Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts, Inc.

Issue Date:         3 August, 2004
Topic:                  Lakeside International Raceway

Brisbane, Queensland – Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts will hold an open meeting in the pits at Lakeside International Raceway on Saturday, 4 September. It will be the first time a motorsport club has been able to use   the heritage listed facility since the Pine Rivers Shire Council took over the facility in 2001.

Vehicles will not be permitted on the circuit during this rare occasion, but supporters are invited to discover the condition of the famous circuit and discuss its future as a motor racing track.

The PRSC has said that it intends to appeal against the world first heritage listing, but this move may indicate a change in Council's attitude toward motorsport.

LMRE president Ian Milton said,

"Until now, motorsport was the only group in the community excluded from using Lakeside, so we're very pleased that Council is taking a more common sense approach to owning a motor racing circuit."

"Obviously, this doesn't mean we've achieved our goal of returning club-level motor racing to Lakeside, but we view it as a step in the right direction."

Lakeside International Raceway in located 30 minutes north of Brisbane on Lakeside Rd, via Narangba Rd in Kallangur. Gates will be open from 12 noon to 2pm with LMRE starting its meeting at 1pm on Saturday, 4 September 2004.

###

Objective

LMRE’s goal is to re-instate club level motor racing at Lakeside International Raceway as soon as possible and assist whichever body will best achieve that outcome. We are not seeking the future ownership or management of the circuit.

Next Meeting

Saturday, 4 September 2004 @ 1:00pm at Lakeside International Raceway, Kallangur.
