Lakeside Heritage Night Success From: Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts, Inc.

June, 2004
Topic: Lakeside International Raceway
Brisbane, Queensland – Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts took their regular monthly meeting on the road to discuss the future of Lakeside International Raceway with a capacity crowd at Brisbane's inner-city suburb of Albion.
The Motorcycle Sportsmen's clubhouse is a museum to Australian motorcycling history with decades of sponsorship posters, event advertising and rider memorabilia. It provided a casual atmosphere for veterans to catch up, share memories and sample some of the city's finest pizza.
Car and bike guys alike were able to renew old friendships, while new enthusiasts were able to meet pillars of the Queensland motor racing fraternity. It was night of revelations with confessions of poor judgment and post event over indulgence.
Some priceless recollections include the time that Geoff Sakzewski took Formula One legend Jim Clark skiing by towing him around the dam behind a tractor. Or when a holidaying family from a southern state strayed onto the circuit in their station wagon, complete with canoe strapped to the roof, only to be engulfed by a swarm of Formula Fords.
Moreover, it was an opportunity for people to voice their concerns and ask questions of LMRE and the status Australia's only heritage listed motor racing circuit.
LMRE president, Ian Milton said,
So positive was the message from all those
attending, that LMRE will be working to regularly alternate meetings between
the Pine Rivers Shire and a more central location such as the Motor Cycle
Sportsmen Clubhouse.
### Objective LMRE’s goal is to re-instate club level motor racing at Lakeside International Raceway as soon as possible and assist whichever body will best achieve that outcome. We are not seeking the future ownership or management of the circuit. Next Meeting Monday, 5 July 2004 @ 7:30pm at Pine Rivers Junior Rugby League Club - Mundin St, Petrie. |
