Dear Ian, I refer to your letter of 12 August 2003 addressed to Councillor Dwyer. I understand similar letters have also been forwarded to other Councillors. I am now responding on their behalf. I acknowledge receipt of the above-mentioned letter together with the attachment concerning the Ipswich Motor Sport Precinct. Your letter requests that Council withdraw its Appeal against the Heritage Listing of the Lakeside Complex and the re-introduction of racing at Lakeside in order to enhance opportunities for tourism within the Shire. I advise that Council's Appeal Application is currently being processed and that it is factors such as the economic value of Lakeside to the Shire as a whole which have led to the Appeal. The Council does not want to be encumbered by a Heritage Listing should opportunities arise in the future for the use of Lakeside which may provide a genuine economic, cultural and environmental advantage to the Shire's ratepayers. The matters you have raised will be considered further by the Council once the Appeal on the Heritage Listing has been determined and the expression of interest process for usage at the Lakeside Complex is being considered. Than you for bringing the matters to Council's attention. Yours Sincerely, Ray Burton Chief Executive Officer c.c. Councillors |
