Ipswich Shows Pine Rivers How To Do It From: Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts, Inc.
Issue Date: 25
August, 2003
Topic: Lakeside International Raceway
Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts
president, Ian Milton, wrote to the Pine Rivers Shire Council on 12
August to request they withdraw their appeal of the heritage listing
of Lakeside International Raceway and provide them with an excerpt
from Queensland Raceway's quarterly newsletter.
The newsletter (below) highlights the
business-like attitude of the Ipswich City Council, their
understanding of the benefits of motor racing and their
cooperative approach to develop the economic value of Queensland
Raceway for the greater community.

State of the Nation
At last we are getting some
recognition for the importance of the Ipswich Motor Sport Precinct
to Queensland and its economy. You may not be aware of it but the
Precinct brings between 150,000 and 200,000 people a year to
Ipswich, which makes it by far the biggest tourist attraction in the
region.
Ipswich City Council has
commissioned a master planning study to be done to bring the
Precinct closer to its real potential as the centre of motor
sporting activities for South East Asia. This plan will then be
presented to the State Government to ensure they are aware of the
large economic benefits the Precinct already brings to Queensland as
well as what can be achieved with relatively small investments.
As the plan moves to fruition we
expect to see the Precinct become the Mecca for all forms of
motorsport; related industries and tourist activities as well as the
existing traditional motorsports.
This is exciting stuff to be
involved with; especially as major international events are
envisaged for the Precinct towards the end of this decade. Expansion
of Queensland Raceway will be a vital part of the future of the
Precinct. No promises, and it is still a long haul but at last our
favourite pastime is getting the visibility it needs to gain
government support.
A BIG Thank you to Ipswich City
Council from all the people who love have fun in cars and bikes!
