A letter of support from the Fiat Car Club of Queensland Inc. 12 July 2003 The Fiat Car Club of Queensland wishes to support the efforts to preserve Lakeside Raceway. Early in 1964, at a chance meeting of some Fiat owners, it was suggested by one of them that it would be a great idea to drive in convoy to the forthcoming Tasman Series race at Lakeside. Prominent 4BH disc jockey and racing car driver, Bill Gates, produced 3 or 4 announcements on his Saturday afternoon show and the following morning approximately 20 assorted Fiats made the historic trip to Lakeside in convoy. This was the humble beginning of the Fiat Car Club of Queensland. Throughout the history of the Club, Lakeside played a major role in its competitive and social calendar, being a regular venue for interstate challenges and driver training exercises. It is intended to include Lakeside in the Club's 40th Anniversary celebrations next year. The Club has contacted its' entire membership asking if they were prepared to support this cause and authorise the Membership Secretary to submit their contact details and sign on their behalf. The result was a resounding 100 percent in favour of supporting the petition. I am confident that a similar response would be forthcoming from the other local Fiat enthusiasts, approximately 4,025, that have been associated with the Club during its 39 years in existence. The membership of the Fiat Car Club of Queensland Inc. wants motor racing to continue at Lakeside International Raceway and authorise Lakeside Motor Racing Enthusiasts, Inc. to contact us in the future regarding Lakeside International Raceway and to submit this list to the Pine Rivers Shire Council on our behalf. List of 228 names, current membership numbers and contact details attached.
